Grandma Woo's Cookbook

Grandma Woo's cooking is the heart of StoryTable.

Along with running StoryTable, I am in the process of writing and publishing a cookbook comprised of my grandmother's signature Korean recipes. It is about preserving more than her ingredients and instructions, but also having a permanent place for my family and I to remember and learn her food. As I began documenting the way my grandmother cooks through the recipe learning process, I realized how many recipes live quietly in kitchens or conversation without fully and publicly getting enjoyed. That's why my Grandma is what inspired StoryTable. It reminded me that every family has recipes worth remembering. Through this entire project, I hope to preserve my own family's food stories while creating space for others to share theirs too. I share a few "sneak peeks" in my own account here, so please go check it out!

Sneak Peak of Recipes:

  • Grandma's Signature Ginger Fried Chicken Strips (gluten and dairy free!)
  • Grandma's Signature Bindaeduk (specially veggie-packed for her grandchildren)
  • Better-Than-Din-Tai-Fung Cabbage

  • Cucumbers

Fun Facts About My Grandma's Cooking:

  • She doesn't eat meat, but she makes the best Korean meats ever!!!
  • My cousins have a variety of allergies, so most of the food she makes is gluten, dairy, and nut free.
  • She chooses to cook with chicken as the main source of protein because it's healthier and cleaner to eat.
  • She never needs to measure anything! She measures by taste.
